The Smart Drive Neo is Grow Up Japan's latest improvement on their already proven Smart Drive silencing hard drive enclosure, offering substantial reduction in hard drive noise on both noisy and quiet hard drives.

Damper and absorbing mechanisms

Specially designed springs absorb noise and suspensed hard drive. Rounded gels prevent vibration that is generated from HDD. This cushioned gel is heat resistant material.

GUP tested many other rubber products, but the results came out miserably. The gels provided high performances even at high temperatures.

The top cover and HDD are attached with heat conduction sheets to cool the hard drive. Your hard drive is also mounted with the gels between top cover and silencer body itself to prevent vibration.

Flexible Conducting Sheet

The flexible heat conducting sheet is simple to apply to any shape created a closely attached contact. This new design helps to release the heat from HDD.

The unique flexible heat conducting sheet used in the Neo hard drive is difficult to find and is expensive, but necessary for improvements in performance in the SMART DRIVE NEO.

Sound Absorbing Materials

The Shart Drive Neo has very thin materials on top of the cover (similar to a sheet of paper) which helps absorbing the sounds. It also specifically blocks low frequency noise that comes from HDDs.

Specially Designed Screws

The screws in the top cover are specially designed and created by micro technology in order to stay stable and reduce buzzing sounds.

Closeness Architecture

The Smart Drive Neo features a completely sealed box for your hard drive. The previous Smart Drive, the Smart Drive 2002, tucked the SATA cable between the top cover and the body part. This new NEO is designed to connect the cable on outside of the box and thus achieves a greater sound-proofing effect. This feature also keeps water or lint dust away from your hard drives. This is a particularly useful feature for industrial situations, in order to prevent hard drive failures.

Sound Insulation and Absorption

Test results show that a heavy plate creates a greater sound-proofing effect. As a result, sound and weight are related very closely.

There is no perfect way or materials to shut the noise out completely. It is difficult to define the level of noise for each person. Because each person feels and hears differently. But, using the Neo silencer box for HDDs will reduce the noise siginificantly. SMART DRIVE is a smart way to do anyway.

Vibration Deadening

HDDs are vibrating continuously. The difficult part to isolating libration is the contact point of HDD which are screwed on the side.

The vibration from your HDD will also resonate the PC case. It causes low frequency vibration. The average PC case, these days, are made by shoddy materials which is very cheap to use. Most PC case suppliers tend to make the front of case fancy, because they think that people do not care about back or side or inside of the case.

Radiation Performance

HDDs generate very high temperatures. Additionally, the chipsets on the back of HDD generate a very high temperature. It is very important to radiate the heat from HDD that with sealed silencer box. HDD easily breaks down by high heat. There is an high risk of failure for higher temperature drives or for those drives at extremely high utilization levels.

Insulation Materials

It is perfect if we could use very heavy plate for those products. However, it is impossible, because it is too thick and too heavy(about 5mm thick plate). Copper is a suitable material to use, but it is too expensive. SMART DRIVE NEOcontains 1.6mm plate that is three times thick than usual aluminum plate. It achieved more sound-proof effect.

Absorption Materials

There are many suitable noise absorbing materials. The SMART DRIVE NEO contains the same absorbing materials used for luxurious cars or other royals.

Another specialty material is the special coating material. This feature reflects noises from HDDs and absorbing sounds. This is one of our patented original designs for SMART DRIVE NEO.

Vibration Deadening Mechanism

This is the new and specially designed silencer box for HDD. It contains well-formed vibration control system which called SMART DAMPER inside of the box. It uses springs to reduce the vibration from HDD, like normal car suspension. There is an meticulous attention to details at the process of producing these springs. The test results definitely proved steady and effective for isolating vibration. G.U.P. achieved the new generation silencer box for HDDs.

Vibration Deadening Material

There are special gels underneath of HDD to support the SMART DAMPER. The gels help to isolate vibration of HDDs. This is extremely suitable material to use with higher temperature drives, because it is produced as anti-heat degradation. You won't need to worry about melting or damaging by heat.

Differences between rubber material and specially designed gel

There is a huge differences between them. Rubber is not long lasting article. It gets worse as time goes by. However, Gel never change its shape, almost eternal life. Moreover, rubber materials have a disadvantages on high tempreture. This is the biggest weakness of rubber that melts by high heat. Therefore, rubber productions are not appropriate to use for around HDDs which generate extremely high heat.

Heat Conduction Materials

SMART DRIVE NEO is equipped with heat conductive sheet on HDD. High amount of heat produced by electronic elements mounted on the circuit board during operation damages those devices and it has to be transmitted to the conductive sheet, which quickly transfers the absorbed heat to large radiating area, so that the heat is more quickly dissipated into air.

It is more important that it should be very flexible, because it has to be attached by adherence completely to transfer the heat. These high quality materials are considered valuable and difficult to release as well production items.

Endothermic Effect

There are some alternatives to radiate the heat from HDD. For example, mirrored surface reflect the heat and will not absorb the heat efficiently. On the other hand, black or dark materials are absorbing the heat well. SMART DRIVE NEO is finished by special spryed coating on it as being used for transfer the heat more quickly and efficiently. Our test result proved that reducing about 2? degrees heat from HDD that is in operation. The black coating is not just ouside looking, it is more for effective features.
